Job Description
The Cargo Controller plays an important role within a 24/7 Cargo Operations Center, responsible for monitoring shipments, managing operational issues, and supporting the smooth movement of cargo across key routes and destinations. The position focuses particularly on high-yield shipments, special loads, high-value customers, and time-sensitive cargo that requires close attention throughout the transportation process.
The role involves real-time monitoring of cargo movements, operational dashboards, service levels, and key performance indicators related to On-Time Performance (OTP), Cargo iQ standards, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and other defined operational requirements. The Cargo Controller ensures that shipments are processed safely, securely, and within agreed timelines through effective coordination with airport teams, cargo handling partners, network operations, commercial teams, and other relevant stakeholders.
A major responsibility is the early identification of delays, service failures, and irregularities. The Cargo Controller conducts first-level investigations, identifies the causes of operational disruptions, and arranges suitable recovery solutions. Different recovery options must be assessed carefully, including their potential financial impact, operational consequences, and effect on customer satisfaction.
Special loads and priority products are monitored through multiple systems and operational platforms to ensure compliance with agreed service standards. Any gaps, delays, or missed cargo milestones require immediate attention and clear communication with the appropriate stakeholders. Changes to bookings, processing schedules, or shipment movements must be communicated promptly to customers and internal teams.
The position also requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving operational environment. Effective communication and coordination are essential when resolving irregularities, reducing unnecessary costs, preventing further delays, and maintaining reliable cargo delivery.
Safety and security remain key priorities. Day-to-day operational decisions must consider potential hazards, threats, and operational risks. Medium and high-level risks must be escalated to the appropriate management personnel without delay.
The Cargo Controller also supports Commercial Products and Hub Quality teams by taking responsibility for end-to-end shipment monitoring and ensuring that operational standards are consistently maintained.
Qualifications
Candidates should have at least a high school qualification, preferably a diploma in logistics, operations management, cargo operations, or a related discipline. A minimum of three years of experience in cargo operations and/or cargo customer service is preferred.
Strong knowledge of computer-based airfreight systems, cargo handling procedures, industry standards, legal regulations, and regulatory compliance is required. Training or practical experience in dangerous goods, live animals, cargo operations, aviation security, and customer service is advantageous.
