Dubai Duty Free marked its 42nd anniversary with an exceptional commercial performance, recording total sales of Dhs69.097 million (US$19 million) within just 24 hours. The milestone was celebrated through a special 25% discount campaign offered across a broad selection of merchandise, attracting thousands of travellers and shoppers throughout the day. The strong demand generated one of the most successful retail days ever achieved by the airport retailer, reflecting both the strength of Dubai’s travel sector and the growing popularity of duty-free shopping among international passengers.
The anniversary results represented a remarkable increase of 15.18% compared to the same occasion in the previous year. Sales rose by more than Dhs9.1 million (US$2.5 million), highlighting continued growth despite intense competition in global airport retail markets. The achievement also became the second-highest single-day sales figure in the company’s history, falling short of the all-time record by only Dhs351,000. The figures demonstrated the retailer’s ability to maintain strong momentum while continuing to expand operations and customer engagement strategies.
Retail activity remained highly energetic across all operating locations, especially at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport generated the largest portion of sales traffic due to its heavy passenger movement and extensive retail offerings. However, Terminal 1’s Concourse D also delivered impressive results, proving its position as an important retail destination within the airport network. Concourse D achieved sales of Dhs13.6 million (US$3.73 million), reflecting a growth of 9.14% compared to the same anniversary event in 2024. Meanwhile, Al Maktoum International Airport posted sales of Dhs1.073 million (US$294,242), showing a sharp increase of nearly 50% over the previous year’s anniversary performance. The rapid improvement at Al Maktoum International Airport indicated rising passenger traffic and growing customer confidence in the airport’s retail experience.
Among all product categories, perfumes once again secured the leading position as the highest-selling segment. Total perfume sales reached Dhs17.455 million (US$4.782 million), representing an increase of 14.73% compared to the previous anniversary celebration. Luxury fragrances from globally recognised brands remained highly popular among travellers looking for exclusive products and competitive pricing. Perfume counters across the airport experienced continuous customer traffic throughout the day, contributing significantly to the record-breaking revenue figures.
Another major contributor to the anniversary success came from the Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise promotions, which continued to attract strong customer interest. Combined ticket sales for these promotions reached Dhs11 million (US$3.01 million), supported by a remarkable surge in online participation. A total of 13,589 online transactions were recorded during the promotional period, significantly higher than last year’s figure of 8,252 transactions. The increase reflected growing digital engagement and demonstrated how online platforms are becoming increasingly important in the airport retail industry. Travellers showed strong enthusiasm for luxury prize draws and high-value rewards, helping boost overall sales performance during the anniversary celebrations.
Watches emerged as another standout category, generating sales of Dhs7.672 million (US$2.102 million). This represented an impressive increase of 42.88%, making watches one of the fastest-growing product segments during the event. Demand remained particularly strong for premium and luxury timepieces, with many customers taking advantage of the anniversary discounts to purchase high-end brands at attractive prices. The category’s exceptional growth highlighted increasing consumer interest in luxury accessories and premium gifting options.
Liquor and cosmetics also delivered solid performances, securing the fourth and fifth positions among top-selling categories. Liquor sales reached Dhs6.460 million (US$1.770 million), while cosmetics generated Dhs4.534 million (US$1.242 million). These categories consistently remain among the strongest contributors to airport retail revenues because of the convenience, tax advantages, and product variety available to international passengers. Beauty products, skincare collections, and premium spirits attracted a diverse range of customers from different nationalities and travel backgrounds.
The anniversary campaign also demonstrated the operational strength and efficiency of the Dubai Duty Free workforce. More than 95,784 transactions were completed during the 24-hour period, surpassing last year’s figure of 93,251 transactions. Managing such a high volume of customer activity required extensive coordination between retail teams, logistics staff, customer service employees, and digital operations departments. The smooth execution of sales operations reflected the organisation’s long-standing expertise in handling large-scale retail events within busy international airport environments.
Beyond retail success, Dubai Duty Free continues to play an important role in promoting Dubai through major international sporting events and sponsorship initiatives.
