Moving into another family-owned building, he began production with a small team of approximately fourteen employees. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter in sports footwear manufacturing.
The new company was officially registered in January 1948, and manufacturing operations commenced on 1 June of the same year. Initially operating under the name “Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler (RUDA),” the business soon adopted a new identity that would become globally recognized. On 1 October 1948, the name “PUMA” was officially registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office. Shortly afterward, Rudolf Dassler announced that the company would operate as “PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler,” and the updated business details were entered into Germany’s commercial register in January 1949.
From its earliest years, PUMA concentrated on producing footwear designed to enhance athletic performance. The company’s commitment to innovation became evident with the introduction of its first football boot, the ATOM, in 1950.
