PRIMARY CLASS TEACHER

Summary & Purpose

The Primary Class Teacher holds the learning, wellbeing and daily experience of a single primary class. Where the operational and academic leadership is accountable for the conditions that make learning possible, the Class Teacher is accountable for what actually happens in the classroom: that every child is known, safe and making progress; that the curriculum is planned and taught to a high standard; and that the classroom is a calm, purposeful and beautiful place in which children want to learn.

At Al Fanar, a British curriculum school that is inspired by Steiner Waldorf pedagogy, the role carries a particular character: teaching that is developmentally attuned, rich in story, rhythm and the arts, and rooted in a genuine relationship with the class. It is a role defined by the ownership of a class, not merely the delivery of lessons: the teacher holds the whole child and the whole day.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Qualification – a recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE / QTS or equivalent) accepted by KHDA.
• Degree – a relevant bachelor’s degree, attested for use in the UAE.
• Permit eligibility – eligible to hold a KHDA teaching permit.
• Experience – proven primary teaching experience, ideally within the British curriculum.
• Child-centred practice – a warm, patient, developmentally attuned approach to primary-age children.
• Safeguarding – a clear understanding of safeguarding duties and an absolute commitment to child protection.
• Communication – strong spoken and written English; the ability to engage both children and parents.
• Organisation – strong planning, assessment and record-keeping discipline.

Additional Requirements:

The Primary Class Teacher is responsible, for the substantial majority of the teaching week, for a single class: planning and teaching across the primary curriculum, holding the rhythm of the school day, and knowing each child well enough to move them forward academically, socially and personally. The role is supported by a teaching Assistant and by specialist and leadership colleagues, but the accountability for the class – its learning, its records, its environment and its wellbeing – rests with the Class Teacher.

The teacher is expected to embody the school’s ethos in daily practice: an unhurried, developmentally appropriate approach; integration of the arts, movement and story; and calm, consistent, respectful relationships with children and their families.
