Crescent Petroleum is the first and largest privately owned, independent oil and gas company in the Middle East, with a legacy that spans more than four decades. Since its establishment, the company has played a pioneering role in shaping the region’s energy landscape through long-term vision, innovation, and strategic investment. Its sustained success has been built on strong leadership, a skilled workforce, and a commitment to responsible energy development. The company’s growth and resilience are closely linked to the dedication and expertise of its people. Crescent Petroleum places strong emphasis on leadership development, professional excellence, and the recognition of achievement. By fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance, the organisation has consistently delivered complex projects while maintaining strong operational and ethical standards.

Crescent Petroleum’s strength as a family-owned business lies in its ability to adopt a long-term perspective when making investment decisions, without excessive influence from public market pressures or short-term political considerations. This strategic approach has allowed the company to take calculated risks and invest ahead of market trends, particularly during periods when natural gas was undervalued or considered a secondary by-product of oil production.

At a time when natural gas was largely overlooked in the region, Crescent Petroleum recognised its long-term importance and invested accordingly. This foresight positioned the company at the forefront of integrated, long-term gas projects in the Middle East. One of the company’s landmark achievements was arranging the first-ever commercial inter-emirate onshore gas supply contract in Sharjah for the UAE Federal Ministry of Electricity and Water in 1985. This milestone laid the foundation for regional energy cooperation and infrastructure development.

Further strengthening its leadership in the gas sector, Crescent Petroleum established the first offshore inter-emirate gas sales and purchase agreement in 1991. This project involved the development of a dedicated subsea pipeline linking the Mubarek offshore facilities to Jebel Ali in Dubai, marking a significant advancement in regional energy connectivity and offshore engineering capabilities.

In 2005, Crescent Petroleum played a pivotal role in the establishment of Dana Gas, the Middle East’s first publicly listed energy company. Listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, Dana Gas has delivered substantial economic, social, and environmental benefits across the region by prioritising domestic energy requirements and supporting sustainable development. Crescent Petroleum remains the largest shareholder of Dana Gas, maintaining a strong strategic relationship that enables participation across the full gas value chain.

The partnership between Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas expanded further in 2008 with the creation of Gas Cities Ltd, a 50-50 joint venture established to develop gas-intensive industrial cities across the region. In addition, involvement with Dana Gas, one of the largest independent gas reserve holders in Egypt, significantly extended Crescent Petroleum’s footprint into North Africa, reinforcing its international presence.

Looking to the future, Crescent Group continues to pursue global expansion with confidence and optimism. The organisation’s 45-year track record as an international energy operator spans eight countries across four continents. Current operations include Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, alongside significant interests in Egypt, reflecting a well-diversified geographic portfolio.

The company’s journey is inseparably linked to its offshore discoveries in the Mubarek Field in 1972. This historic discovery marked a turning point that propelled both Crescent Petroleum and the Emirate of Sharjah onto the global oil and gas stage. While oil discoveries in Abu Dhabi and Dubai occurred in 1958 and 1966 respectively, commercial production in Sharjah began in 1974 following the Mubarek discoveries.

Since that time, Crescent Petroleum has witnessed and contributed to the remarkable economic and industrial growth of Sharjah. Setting a world record at the time, the Mubarek Field was brought into full production within just 13 months of discovery, achieving output levels exceeding 60,000 barrels per day. This achievement underscored the company’s technical expertise, project execution capability, and commitment to operational excellence.

Crescent Petroleum maintains a deep and long-standing commitment to the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE as a whole. The company continues to hold two key exploration assets in the country: the Sharjah Onshore Concession, held since 2008, and an offshore concession surrounding Sharjah’s Sir Abu Nu’ayr Island.

Beyond oil and gas, Crescent Group has expanded into a diverse portfolio of sustainable businesses through its subsidiary, Crescent Enterprises. These operations span ports and logistics, power and engineering, business aviation, private equity, and business incubation, reflecting a broader commitment to long-term economic value creation.

Crescent Petroleum operates as a subsidiary of Crescent Group and is governed by the Group Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for defining overall strategy and providing oversight of strategic, financial, and operational risks. To support effective governance, an Executive Committee (ExCom) has been established to oversee policy implementation at Crescent Petroleum. The ExCom provides strategic direction, reviews corporate plans and mission objectives, develops capital management guidelines, and sets company-wide policies. The committee is composed of experienced professionals with extensive regional and international expertise, ensuring robust leadership and disciplined decision-making.
